![]() It’s a good thing the second half of the song is so energetic. The main lyrical motif of the first half is “it’s raining, it’s pouring,” for goodness sake. “No More Tears (Enough Is Enough)” couldn’t do more to satirize Streisand’s entire musical ethos than it does. “I honestly have to wonder how Babs approved of this one. Just a couple of real delights and a plea for stronger songs.Barbara Joan “Barbra” Streisand (born April 24, 1942) is an American singer, actress, and filmmaker. So, worth buying but don't expect too much. But it's good enough to demand repeated listening. Barbra's phrasing is impeccable and moving until.an overblown chorus ruins the mood. But Stephen Bishop's classic "one more night" nearly achieves greatness. Why the upbeat rhythm track for a heart-wrenching ballad? A real misfire. But carnes' own version captures the sadness and desperation of a love gone wrong in a haunting, memorable recording that streisand can't compete with. "Stay away" was a kim carnes composition, which is always a plus. But there are two brilliant songs here, covered with varying results. "Songbird" is another stunning vocal but the song is strangely unmoving, as if only the singer can grasp its power. The solo version of "you don't bring me flowers" is emotionally delivered but ultimately overwrought-the duet was a major improvement (though barbra got a Grammy nomination for the solo version). Things start off well enough with a beautifully restrained version of the potentially nauseating "tomorrow", but then a series of undistinguished ballads start to spoil the party. One of the few true disappointments in barbra's catalog.
